How to become a RAW agent?
RAW doesn’t have any direct recruiting process until and unless you have some exceptional talent. RAW hire candidate mostly through government departments like Intelligence agencies, Armed forces, Police services, Administrative services, etc. We will discuss each of the ways to become a RAW agent in detail.
How to become a RAW agent through UPSC Civil Services Exam(CSE)?
As mentioned above RAW hire candidates from different Government departments and these departments hire candidates through UPSC Civil Service Exam. UPSC exam is considered the toughest exam in India.
RAW recruits candidates who had already cleared the UPSC Civil Services Exam and opted for IAS(Indian Administrative Services), IPS(India Police Services), IRS(Indian Revenue Services), and IFS(Indian Foreign Services). The RAW’s selection Process Starts once the candidate has successfully completed his/her foundation course from Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Then RAW conducts an interview in which the candidates have to go through a number of psychological tests.
How to become a RAW agent through the Armed forces?
RAW hires most of its Field Officers from Armed Forces. Well RAW don’t conduct any selection rounds they directly recruit the candidates if they see the talent. So if want to take this way then you have to do something extraordinary during your service to grab the attention of RAW. For those who don’t know how to get into Armed Forces, you have to clear NDA (National Defense Academy) Exam to get a job in Armed Forces.
How to get into RAW through IB(Intelligence Bureau)?
According to me, this is the best option to go for since even if you don’t get into RAW you will not regret it much because the job profile of an IB Officer and A RAW agent is very similar. The only difference is RAW mainly focuses on foreign affairs while IB focuses on internal affairs.

How to join IB?
To Join you have to clear Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam (CGPE) conducted every year by Staff Selection Commission (SSC). This exam is conducted in two-phase the first is Tier-1 and the second is Tier-2. Tier-1 examination contains four sections and all the question are objective. While Tier-2 examination compromises comprehension and the essay and its duration is one hour.
Only the candidates who have cleared the tier-1 examination with cutoff marks are eligible for the tier-2 examination. The candidates that have a clear tier-2 examination with cutoff marks have to go through the third and the last round which is the interview.
